This is kind of awesome . Eleven - twelvemonth - old Rowan Hansen wrote to DC Comics require why there were n’t more female superheroes , and why the female heroes do n’t wear more practical costumes . They responded with a drawing of Hansen as a superhero . Her answer : Thanks , but that ’s not what I enquire for .
Hansen , who appeared on the Today Show this morning ( see below ) , is incredibly eloquent and start out to the heart of the problems with female characters in superhero strip . Some choice quote :
“ It ’s not like the manly superheroes are good than the female superheroes , but there are just more of them . ”
“ If Batman gets to wear down armour , then why does n’t Wonder Woman get to wear armour ? I know that she ’s kind of invulnerable , but it would still be nice if she did n’t have to wear down a bathing suit all the fourth dimension . ”
“ If you ’re campaign crime , then I do n’t realise how you ’re kick the bucket to camouflage yourself if you ’re wear a burnished pinkish suit . That ’s not very practical . ”
She write to DC Comics about this , whichtweetedat her , “ Thanks , Rowan . We harmonize , we ’re bring hard to create more superhero sport for young woman ! ” And today , she was on the Today Show , where DC presented her with a gift handbasket full of stuff , including a cute frame in picture show ( see above ) showing Hansen as a superhero . Which is a sweet gesture , but does n’t actually add to the roll of character reference in the comics ( unless DC is going to certify Hansen ’s image . )
So Hansen ’s response is utter : “ I do n’t want people to call back , ‘ Oh yeah , they respond to her . Now it ’s over . ’ I want people to keep trying to make this happen . Because it ’s very significant to me . ” [ viaComic Book Resources , h / t Joe ]
