And though Disney has released major theatrical releases like Soul , Mulan , andRaya and the Last Dragononto the Disney+ streaming service of process , every meter reading is that Black Widow will not that take that route . It ’ll be a theatrical release .

In a new interview , Disney CEO Bob Chapek say the decision on how to eject Black Widow , and all of the relief of Disney ’s upcoming films , will be made at the “ last arcminute . ”
“ Our situation and our conditions switch , ” Chapek said toCNBC(viaDeadline ) . “ Just a few weeks ago , theater in New York and Los Angeles were n’t even open . Now , all of a sudden they ’re open , so we ’re await to see how prospective playgoer answer to these reopenings . We ’re travel to remain flexible . We ’ll make the call probably at the last mo in terms of how these films come to market , whether it ’s Black Widow or any other title . ”
Of course , Chapek is right that theaters in the two biggest moviegoing markets have begun to reopen , albeit with limited capacity . What Disney and other studio will wait for is to see if audiences actually return to fill those theaters up . That will gradually happen , as covid-19 vaccines carry on to be distributed , but there ’s no way to predict any kind of timeline .
As that plays out , Widow and all the other film have a overplus of options . Disney can discharge the plastic film only in theaters , only on Disney+ ( Soul did this but it ’s the least potential options ) , at the same time on both platform with Disney+ Premier Access ( like the studio apartment did with Mulan and Raya ) , or even mirror Paramount ’s strategy , which is theatrical waiver only , with avery quick turnaround onto streaming . If anything , that last choice sound like the most plausible one for Disney go into the summer .
