Two decades since his cameo inSex and the City,David Freihas nothing but fond memories of costarsSarah Jessica ParkerandKristin Davis.
At this year’sNational Dog Showtaping at the Greater Philadelphia Expo Center in Oaks, Pa., longtime host Frei told PEOPLE it was “great fun” appearing in the hit HBO show’s final season.
“My best memory of that is walking in the makeup trailer,” Frei said. “I walked behind Sarah Jessica and she was looking up in the big mirror and she looks and sees me and says, ‘Hey, I know you. You’re the dog guy.’ And I said, ‘Okay, God, you can take me now. Sarah Jessica Parker says she knows who I am.’ So that’s my great memory from that.”

In the season 6 episode “The Cold War,” which originally aired in February 2004, Frei had a brief cameo as a judge at a dog show in which Kristin Davis’ Charlotte York entered her King Charles spaniel, Elizabeth Taylor. In his scene with Davis, a minor mishap threatens to tank the pooch’s chance at taking home the top prize, forcing Charlotte to turn on the charm to get on Frei’s character’s good side.
Frei told PEOPLE that he and Davis reconnected several years later when she appeared at the Westminster Kennel Club Dog Show.
“She had just done the [2006]Shaggy Dogmovie, and our floor reporter interviewed her and we were able to talk,” Frei said.

“The floor reporter said, ‘Hey, there was some rumor that you and Kristin were an item during that show,’ ” Frei recalled. “And Kristin played along with it. She says, ‘Well, we weren’t supposed to talk about that.’ I said, ‘All right, Kristin, it’s just great to see you again,’ or something to that effect. So, yeah, that was fun.”
“I mean, I’ve got the greatest job in the world,” Frei added, “but things like that, that come along because of the dogs going to the White House, riding on a float in theMacy’s Thanksgiving Day Parade— lots of great things. I have the greatest job in the world. I can’t say that enough.”
