Theseason onefinale of Evil — formerly of CBS , now on the newly - knight Paramount+ teem serving — aired all the way of life back in January 2020 ( here ’s a recapif you ’ve since forgotten its okay points).Season twois in conclusion here and “ N Is for Night Terrors ” picks decently back up with our trio of supernatural investigators ( and their various friends , foes , and frenemies ) , and answer one big question that ’s been dangle for a year and a half . Well , answers half of it at least .
So , yes . Kristen Bouchard ( Westworld ’s Katja Herbers)—skeptical former Catholic , forensic psychologist , de facto exclusive mum of four young daughters — can now also add “ killer ” to that inclination , something hard implied that is now confirmed . We do n’t in reality get a flashback to the outcome , but we see her remove the line of descent - spatter murder weapon ( an ice ax , since Kristen is also a former mountain climber ) from her elevator car trunk and furtively scrub it uninfected . A little by and by in the instalment , we also get a full - on confession , when she tells her shrink ( Kurt Fuller ) what encounter . premeditate murder is unquestionably a no - no , especially when one ’s line of work need postulate a bandstand against biblically sinister forces , but nobody ’s go to cry for the dupe : Orson LeRoux ( Darren Pettie ) , a serial killer who slide out of his conviction in the time of year one close and pronto start stalking Kristen and her class . However , the status of Kristen ’s mortal seems to be in with child danger ; we come across as much when she burned her hand on a crucifix in the time of year one close .
Priest - in - training David Acosta ( Luke Cage ’s Mike Colter ) , meanwhile , is still healing from his recent shot wounds , but his greater pain is the fact that God ’s been giving him the soundless treatment lately . He does , however , have an perfectly bonkers daydream that continues his time of year one finale visual sense of Kristen being led wide by a devilish figure — this metre , though , Evil ’s own nerdy boogyman , Leland Townsend ( Michael Emerson ) , of a sudden pops up and start dancing to what sound like “ Funkytown . ” Elsewhere , the squad ’s tech wizard , Ben Shakir ( Aasif Mandvi ) , is seen watching news reports of LeRoux ’s gory demise — while understandably recalling the fact that he ’s just seen Kristen washing profligate off her peg in a personal manner that could not have been more suspicious . When he confront her , she brushes him off — and even asks him to test the metal on her rood-tree , explain that it give her a “ skin rash . ” Eager to help , he have her know it ’s cobalt , which can cause a rash or even a burn if it ’s somewhat heated . Her therapist offer yet another suggestion : the skin rash or combust could be psychosomatic , maybe some honest-to-goodness “ Catholic guilt ” coming through . mass of science available , Kristen ! Maybe you ’re not on Satan ’s naughty list after all ?

While everyone ’s mulling over their various “ oh shit ” moments , the trinity — who ’s hire by the Catholic Church to assure outalleged possession , miracle , and other religiously angled supernatural occurrences — is still pursuing the case they were work a the end of last time of year : a fertility clinic that may be hiding a hellish secret . “ A diabolical bearing is trying to vitiate a generation by manipulating their eggs , ” David explain to their boss , Bishop Marx ( Peter Scolari ) , who ’s naturally rather incredulous , even after Kristen explain that one of her daughters ( Lexis , played by Maddy Crocco ) was conceive with assistance from the clinic , giving her strong motivating to prioritize the investigation . However , squad Evil shortly bustle about along to a brand - new casing , deemed highly important by the Bishop , involving a man who claims he ’s sold his mortal to the devil but now want to get out of the spate .
Only , it ’s not just any random man . It ’s Leland ! Claiming that he wants an exorcism ! Because his wedding ( to Sheryl , played by Christine Lahti , who also happens to be Kristen ’s estranged mother ) is right around the corner ! Kristen and David are indignant and do n’t need anything to do with this “ yardbird job , ” but Ben suggests they can use the assignment to their advantage . Even if Leland lie to their face , which everyone assumes he will , the team will still find out more about him — and any information about the mysterious Leland can only be helpful in the farseeing foot race . They do get some biographic details ( he started dabble in the dark art because he was sick of being browbeat at school ; the soul - selling deed went down “ while my parent were watching MAS*H * in the next elbow room ” ) , but their fact - checking efforts , include a thorough lookup of his flat , evoke his stories are all shit . Kristen — whose pre - God Squad problem involved testing defendants who were examine to claim insanity — is task with interviewing Leland as a way of life to prove he ’s psychotic , rather than own . Of of course , psychopathy is her diagnosing ( with a side of narcissism ) , but Bishop Marx decides Leland will get his dispossession anyway .
So that ’s something to look frontward to ! But Leland ’s dispossession certainly feel like a stunt designed to overstretch focus aside from the fertility clinic investigating . It ’s also enabling him to get closemouthed to the three . Though he occupy Ben ’s dreams with a ogre that call forth season one ’s creepy George , who haunted Kristen periodically , and continues to itch his engagement to Sheryl in Kristen ’s face , Leland tells her David is the true prize . “ Help me charm him off from the priesthood , ” he says , “ And I ’ll pass on your daughters alone . ” You may recall the last time someone threatened Kristen ’s daughters , he ended up stagnant with an ice axe - induced school principal wound .

Though David , Kristen , and Ben all say they do n’t trust Leland is possessed — they really do not require him to get his fashion and have that dispossession perform — everyone ’s starting to have some serious doubts ground on their own experiences and observations , even if they have yet to allow it to each other . The most disgraceful moment in “ N Is for Night Terrors ” bug Leland ’s supernatural influence big - time , and it involves Kristen ’s daughter Lexis . After some uncomfortable dental issues — interrogatively pointy incisors are coming in over the top of her babe teeth , create what the little miss cry a “ vampire smile”—she exit in for everyday surgical process that look at a turn when , under anaesthesia , her jaw snap down and awfully mutilate the dentist ’s finger . It ’s macabre and unnatural , which is exactly the vibe Leland dwell to naturalise .
It seems belike Evil will shift back to more of a teras - of - the - week format now that the season two premiere is out of the way , but no matter what , we ’ve manifestly catch a marriage ( Leland ’s ) and an exorcism ( also Leland ’s ) to count ahead to in the coming weeks . The birthrate clinic saga is survive to rear back up again , for certain . And we also need to get to the bottom of why Kristen ca n’t pick up a rood-tree without sear her flesh , because that is a troubling maturation indeed . What did you recall of the Evil season premiere ?
