Brazilian fashion influencer Laleska Alexandre has died due to complications from an ovarian infection, per local reports. She was 28.
The social media personality — who has almost 26,000 followers onInstagram— died on Wednesday, Feb. 5 in the city of Juazeiro do Norte, local outletO Globoreported, citing her team.
Alexandre’s team confirmed that the content creator, who was also a fashion designer and businesswoman, died “due to complications from an abscess,” per the translated article.
CNN Brasiladded that Alexandre suffered a septic shock, resulting from a fallopian tube infection.
The publication stated she’d been feeling unwell and had been admitted to the emergency room on Sunday, Feb. 2, citing her cousin, Karízia Temóteo.
Alexandre was then transferred to Cariri Regional Hospital, where she underwent emergency surgery. Doctors discovered the infection during the surgery, but “it was already at an advanced stage,” per the outlet.

O Globoreported the influencer had a tubo-ovarian abscess (TOA), which, according to theNational Institutes of Health(NIH), is a “severe complication of pelvic inflammatory disease (PID) that predominantly affects sexually active women of reproductive age.”
Symptoms can include fevers and abdominal pain, NIH stated, adding that rupture can potentially lead “to life-threatening sepsis.”

CNN Brasil reported Alexandre’s wake took place in Juazeiro do Norte on Thursday, Feb. 6.
Alexandre’s team did not immediately reply to PEOPLE’s request for information.
