Giada De Laurentiisloves bonding with her daughter — especially when it means they’ll be making TikToks together.
The celebrity chef, 54, appeared onThe Tonight Show with Jimmy Fallonon Monday, Mar. 3, and was asked about her relationship with her 16-year-old daughter Jade. As the two discuss De Laurentiis' TikTok, which often features her teenage daughter, the proud mom says that her daughter will occasionally send her ideas from school — over DMs.
“She brings me the TikTok influencers. She’ll like scroll and send me texts from school, which she shouldn’t be doing,” De Laurentiis jokes. “Anyway, she sends them to me, and she’s like, ‘Mom, we should make this tonight.’ And a lot of times, it’s not even a text. It’s a DM on my Instagram.”
“So sometimes she’ll be like, ‘I sent you a bunch of DMs. You have not responded,' " she shares. “I’m like, ‘Because I don’t live in my DMs. Like, text me, I’m your mother.’”

Speaking with PEOPLE in October, De Laurentiis noted that although she and Jade share a resemblance, the celebrity chefdoesn’t consider her only childto be a “mini-me.”
The proud mom reveals that her daughter is gifted in the arts department, singing with her band (which her momproudly promotes) and performing in musicals and plays. However, singing is not a trait that De Laurentiis passed down, the chef said.
“It’s crazy because neither her father or I sing,” De Laurentiis told PEOPLE. “Nobody in my family sings. I mean, we all love music, but not like that. Maybe in the shower. I’m always speechless when it comes to Jade and her music because she’s able to write music.”
Jade also taught herself to play the keyboard during the pandemic and is currently learning to play the guitar on her own, said De Laurentiis.
“I don’t have that gift, so I am just in such awe of her willingness and her openness at teaching herself these instruments that to me are just beyond,” she said. “I don’t play the piano. I don’t play any instrument. It’s really sad, but I don’t. It wasn’t something my parents highlighted, and I just never went for it.”
