A new chapter in the vicious Dead seriesis nearly here , with Lee Cronin ’s Evil Dead Rise shifting the demonic shenanigans from the deep , dark forestto a Los Angeles high - rise . The writer - directorhas spoken before about why Rise goes in a new direction , but in a Modern interview he gives more details about the decisiveness .
Speaking toCollider , Cronin ( The Hole in the Ground ) explain that while he ’s a confirmed Evil Dead fan , joining the franchise was n’t something he plant “ overwhelming . ” Instead , he said , “ I was kind of frantic , but I also knew what I wanted and what the guys wanted was to do something that was a slight bit of departure , a lilliputian routine of a new centering . That actually institute a certain exemption . It was kind of liberating . Had I been tell a story in the cabin in the woods with Ash , I would have been utterly terrify . But when I had the originative exemption to tell a account that I was concerned in , I was at peace . It ’s my favorite book I ’ve ever pen , my favourite screenplay . It was so much playfulness to write . ”
Though Cronin said his on - set mantra was “ Make it entertaining , ” he wanted to be sure his flick was rooted in material musical theme . “ When I found the heart of the characters and the family , and within that the metaphor that drives the story , I think that is always the moment for me because that pep up the choices that you then go on and make , ” he said . “ And even when the monstrous thing happen and the behaviour and some of the negotiation with those deadites , it fare out of that kind of mysterious mind , that deeper fearfulness of motherhood , how family can fall aside , look at some of those thematic things . And also , when I felt comfortable with that , I felt like then I could just go and have a party with the revulsion at that spot . ”
