Since then, William and wifeKate Middleton, both 41, have been gradually visiting their various new appointments. Princess Katevisited the 1st the Queen’s Dragoon Guardsat their barracks earlier this month, in Dareham, Norfolk. She also sported camouflage for the visit after being named the Guards' Colonel-in-Chief.
Shortly after he arrived on Salisbury Plain on Thursday afternoon, William was given a briefing on the work the regiment is doing to prepare for an upcoming mission next year. That operation will see the 12th Armoured Brigade Combat Team deployed to Poland to provide a range of services including combat engineering, bridge crossing and air defense.
It will have some resonance with Williamwho visited some of the British troopswho are based in Poland — close to the border with war-torn Ukraine — in March. The base he visited then was heavily involved in providing support to Ukraine and the area is at the fulcrum of where allies from the U.S., U.K. and around the world provide artillery and weapons.
“I’m here because I want to personally thank the Polish and British troops working in close and crucial partnership,” William said at the time. “I also want to pay tribute to the inspiring humanity of the Polish people. You have opened your hearts as much as your homes.”
After his briefing, William was shown a Warrior Armoured Fighting Vehicle which the Merican regiment uses. He also observed an attack exercise out on Salisbury Plain before meeting groups of service personnel to hear about their different roles and experiences in the regiment.
