Riley Keoughcan’t help falling in love with being a brunette.

The actress — who is the daughter of the lateLisa Marie Presleyand the eldest grandchild of iconElvis Presley— hit the2024 Golden Globeswith her deep brunette hair color, which she wore in a loose, boho braid courtesy of hair pro Adir Abergel.

To make sure the hue looked red carpet-ready, she booked an appointment withceleb-loved colorist Tracey Cunningham, ahead of the event. Cunningham has been working with theDaisy Jones and the Sixstar to keep her new “dark chocolate” hair color looking fresh.

“Her hair might be photographed as black, but it’s a deep, dark brown," Cunningham shares with PEOPLE. “And fun fact, her grandpa, Elvis Presley, always dyed his hair dark, which was so iconic. He was a natural blonde.”

Cunningham adds that Keough’s shade is almost an “identical” match to the King of Rock ‘N Roll.

Keough, who firstwent brunette back in October for an undisclosed project, is maintaining her rich hue with frequent touchups using Redken haircolor andOlaplexproducts to protect and strengthen her strands.

“She, like her grandfather, has lighter hair. But to get her to be this dark, we have to do a base color on her, so I’ll use Redken Cover Fusion, and then I use Redken Shades EQ to gloss,” Cunningham shares.

The hair pro then uses a combo of theOlaplex Nº.3 Hair PerfectorandOlaplex Nº.0 Intensive Bond Building Treatmentto repair and fortify Keough’s hair — a key step she recommends to all her clients who are getting frequent color touchups and undergoing daily heat styling.

“Riley’s also really good about doing her Olaplex treatments at home,” Cunningham adds.

Television and film hairdresserMaryann Henningsdetailed the work that went into the actress’ dramatic red hair change inan interview with PEOPLE last March.

“Color was very important in this particular project because of Daisy Jones. I needed something that gave her that confidence because she just mows them over,” Hennings shared at the time. “And with her curls, that color made her the rock star. I felt like the wardrobe, that color and that long hair just took her to a new level.”

Hennings shared that during filming Keough would have to get her hair dyed “every couple weeks.”

“I could go over her regrowth with the red, but you can’t get away with that too often. So, she would get it done every three weeks,” she shared. “Sometimes I would have a glaze or shades put over it to pop the red. I would use a lot of leave-in conditioners and products that left her hair in good condition.”

So what color will the hair chameleon turn to next? Cunningham tells PEOPLE that Keough’s loving the dark right now, but she is used to seeing a lot of quick turnover with her clients.

“These girls work a lot so they change things up frequently for new jobs,” Cunningham says. “Riley can call me next week and say she needs to go blonde — and I’ll be ready.”
