A 14-year-old boy is dead after being stabbed to death in New York City, authorities said.

The teenager was stabbed in the abdomen during a fight involving a large group outside a McDonald’s in Queens, N.Y., at around 3:30 p.m. local time on Friday, Feb. 14, the New York Police Department (NYPD) said in a statement shared with PEOPLE.

Two potential suspects were taken into custody for questioning, the NYPD said, and a 14-year-old has since been arrested and charged with first-degree gang assault.

The investigation remains ongoing, per police.

A witness who saw the incident toldCBS News, “A group of maybe, like, 15, 20 kids in ski masks pull up on another group of kids. It was just hectic. They were screaming and cursing at each other and all that. They were definitely going after someone.”

A resident in the area added to the outlet that “a lot kids hang out at the McDonald’s” with “[no]where to go.”

Police found a knife, which is believed to have been the weapon used, left in the street after the incident, CBS News reported.
