Tom Schwartzmay “look like a couch,” according to his ex-wife andVanderpump RulescostarKatie Maloney, who jokinglydissed the floral-patterned jackethe wore to BravoCon 2023.
But, the Bravo star and restaurateur isn’t willing to sit out on his fashion A-game any longer.
In an exclusive interview with PEOPLE, Schwartz, 41, says he’s ready to reinvent his wardrobe after hitting a slump in the style department.
“I’m not known for my style. I’ve been extra schleppy lately and I was thinking I could also use a little bit of a symbolic reset,” he says, adding that he’s been a “sad sack” and a “bit of a basket case” for the last couple of years.

Schwartz’s closet isn’t the only part of his life that’s on the up and up. “I need to put more work into myself and I’ve been doing that. I’ve been working out, eating healthier. I’ve been spending more time with my family, which is bringing me so much joy.”
He’s been getting back on track after a difficult past year and a half that has played out onscreen and off.
“I felt like I was kind of falling apart,” he notes.
Behind the scenes, Schwartz was also focused on being there for his family. “Almost having lost my brother, my dad and my other brother getting testicular cancer and having to undergo chemotherapy,” he shares of his personal matters that made life especially hard.
But these days, Schwartz, who recently joinedseason 3of Bravo’sWinter House, finallyfeels like he’s “getting it together again” and is “more confident and happier. Homeostasis is back,” he says.
