Matthew Mancuso and Bria Martone of TLC’sUnpolishedare ready to start a family together.

“Things have changed tremendously. I’m sober and I’m definitely in the best place I’ve ever been in my life,” Matthew says in an on-camera interview. “I definitely want to be the best husband I can be and the best father I can be. And we’re looking to expand our family.”

“It’s something called timed intercourse,” Dr. Lee explains. “You know that you have a 28-day cycle — that means you ovulate on day 14. Around that day, every other day, you have intercourse just once. That will help improve your changes of getting pregnant.”

When Dr. Lee clarifies that the couple should not “masturbate on the side” or “have sex elsewhere,” Bria jokes to Matthew, “If you have sex elsewhere, this is a whole other conversation.”

Still confused, Matthew again asks both women for further clarification.

“So I get my period on the 30th — 14 days from then is the prime time,” Bria reiterates.

Dr. Lee also tells the pair that they should not have sex more than once every other day.

“It’s kind of like your saving your sperm,” Bria tells Matthew.

In an on-camera interview afterwards, Matthew and Bria can’t help but laugh about the meeting. “I learned a lot about ovulation today,” Matthew says. “I guess there is science behind the sex-every-other-day thing.”

“Is it true that the position of the … of sexual intercourse between us can make a difference of a male or a female?” he asks Dr. Lee. “Like, what I read is if she’s on the bottom…”

“Matt may not understand conception counseling very much,” a bemused Dr. Lee says in an interview. “In comparison to other dads, he may understand it even less well.”
